Fruity Loops Tutorial! - The Basics to a Quick Beat

Hello Everybody,

Today is the day, the first tutorial day. For this first tutorial I'm going to show you the overall UI of the program, how to use some of it, and hopefully showing you how to make your first beat. It is a bit long winded but this was made for those just starting out. I'll get more advanced later. So without further stalling on my end, let's begin.

DJ Mope - Soul Rap

DJ Mope - Soul Rap by IYQ

Just when I thought I would have nothing to post today, I get an email from DJ Mope with this gem in it.
To summarize:
"A deep, soulful beat from DJ Mope. The synth starting at 1:09 reminds me of the pain I felt when I was informed all the dinosaurs were gone. And were never coming back, ever."

After seeing the banner I have some other blog owners have contacted my and 'hired' me to make them up one too. Here's what I did. (I still got one more to go, I'll update this when that's done) Made in 3ds.

Blogger HD Render Complete!

Mission successful everybody! But...
Not only is the image too big resolution wise to display here, it is also too large of a file to upload to most picture sites. Sorry, but you'll have to download it off Box.net

To See the full size image, click here!

Some other things you may be interested in...
Render time: 12 hours, 32 minutes, and 10 seconds.
Here are the basic settings it was rendered at, in case you wanted to know.

Once again, sorry for making you use Box, but I promise it's worth the look. Thanks to everybody who does!

Enjoy.
Edit: I read and appriciated all the comments that were on this. Of course, when blogger was done comments were lost that never came back. Thanks anyways!

DJ Womp - Follow Me

Actually not. After finishing a final today, I came home expecting to see a completed render but instead see my brother playing Fifa on the PC I was rendering the 'Blogger' image on. I figure, "No big deal, he's usally smart enough to leave my stuff open until I get to it". About an hour later I ask to get on to save the render (in 3ds the image doesn't save itself unless you specifically tell it to, which I didn't) and he says he already saved it. I ask how, and he says, "Oh, I just pressed control+s and exited out".  Thanks bro, you just saved my already finished project and exited the software thus deleting the image... I'll do the same thing tonight and if all goes well you can expect the image tomorrow between 3-5.

Anyways, this track should hold you over until then, it uses sound clips from "Shaun of the Dead". Give the beat a minute to evolve and I think you'll be pleased.
Enjoy!

Just remember: If you get cornered, bash 'em in the head.

3d Update

Sorry guys, no new images yet. I left 3ds on again overnight (since 10 pm, so almost 12 hours) for the 1080 HD render of the 'blogger' image, but it's not quite done yet. I'll leave it running while I'm at school and then I'll post the results. Stay tuned!

DJ Womp - Straight Flow

DJ Womp - Straight Flow by IYQ

This next track is by DJ Womp entitled "Straight Flow". The goal of this one was to make a fairly solid, relaxed, and mid-tempo hip-hop beat for freestyling.
Enjoy.

Also, I'm watching the poll and it's looking like I might have to make a tutorial pretty soon. <3

DJ Mope - Harmonic Chill

First let me say I was happy I posted that 3d work, a lot of you seemed to like it. Last night I started the render for the 'blogger' one at 1080p but it wasn't done at noon and I had stuff to do, so I had to cancel it. I'll have to figure out another time to give it a run.

Now, to the music. Some of you may have heard of Animusic, the group that makes movies to compliment the music they make. Well, as a sort of practice exercise DJ Mope emulated the track "Harmonic Voltage", getting the notes by ear, into a chill rendition. (No, I'm not sure what it is with IYQ and chill right now). So yeah, enjoy it!

3d Work Appetizer

O.k, so as every blogger knows, it's imperative to try to stretch out what you have for as long as possible, so for today's 3d post I'm only going to share three images. I tried to scale these so they fit my blog a bit better (and they do!) but they overhang a bit. Oh well.  See what happens when I don't scale them correctly.

This first one was made awhile back (in Cinema 4d) because I needed a new desktop background (for my dual monitor set-up). This is made up of text splines extruded to make them 3d. The grass is made using the fur plug-in. There is also a very slight depth of field lens being used. (Evident in the blurred horizon line.)

For the full size image, go here. (Warning: 3360 x 1050 resolution) I highly recommend viewing the full size image to truly appreciate the grass.
Approximate render time: 1-2 hours

This next one I actually made today (in 3ds Max) just for you guys! The word "BLOGGER" was arbitrary chosen and made using the same method described above; however, as you might notice, it has a hole running through it. This hole is actually fairly complex and made using the Boolean function. The pills are simply the 'capsule' primitive with a mirror-like material applied to them. The 'pipe' that is twirling around is simply a spline with a circle primitive 'lofted' to it. If any of that made sense to you, congrats! You understand this better than most people. What you see below if full size, it would take days to render at a high resolution. The long render time is due the multiple reflections and the quality settings I had it set at.
Approximate render time: 3 hours

Also, those of you familiar with Toribash might appreciate the following. It's a render I did (in Cinema 4d) for a clan's group picture. I would like to point out that I DID NOT model nor rig the characters, but did arrange the composition and make the render.
Due to the quality lighting and blurred reflections, this one took fairly long to render.
Approximate render time: 3 hours

DJ Womp - Chill Resort

Chill Resort by IYQ

Since "Chill Factory" by DJ Mope got so much love, I though I would share the track the was the inspiration, at least title wise, for it. This one is another one of DJ Womp's earliest works.
Please Enjoy.

Also, I'm starting to wonder if I should share some of our 3d work, what do you guys think?

A Classic DJ Womp Beat: Glitch Beat

Glitch Beat by IYQ

Well, since I've posted some of DJ Mope's earliest work (it is his only work btw :) I thought I would share one of my better beats when I first started. It was made just before the summer of 2010. This one is very short, coming in at a mind-melting 52 seconds. The biggest thing I would like to point out is that when it comes to everything I do, Fruitly Loops, Photoshop, 3DS Max, etc..I am completely Self-Taught.
Enjoy.

EDIT: In case you guys didn't realize, I'm DJ Womp!

Also: The track does work, for me at least. I have no idea why it won't work for some of you!
Anyways, here the direct soundcloud link: http://soundcloud.com/iyq/glitch-beat Enjoy!

Won a Dubstep Related Contest Today!

Sorry if the pics are a little big! It looks like they have no regards for the boundaries of  my blog.
Today I was browsing facebook when I noticed a contest had just popped up on my news feed. See below:

Unfortunately, I did not win, but notice that William also made a mistake. So he did not win, even though he was fastest. Later on in the thread, Will asked for another contests, so Jordan, being the sweet dude he is, obliged.

Jordans next post was something like, "Next contest starts at 20 after the hour, be there". I looked at my watch and saw it was about 15 after. I got my windows arranged with facebook in one and google in the other, ready to search. I also copy and pasted my answer from the first contest, determined to have that the first thing posted to matter what. The clock struck 19 after, and I started refreshing the page as soon as it would load, getting ready for the contest. Finally, the contest was posted, and I, being the fairly good skim reader I am, immediately recognized what the contest asked with out reading the entire thing.

Finish the sentence: But the thing I love the most is, CUMMING ON YOUR ____?

Luckily for me, I have a few friends on my hockey team the like dubstep, and one of them played this track a few times. How could I ever forget that pre-drop line. I immediatly press Control + V and the enter to post the joke answer, then immeditaly after posted Face. After another second, I posted Tits, just to be safe. See Below.

Turns out I was right! (With my second post of course). With in a matter of seconds, 50 posts flooded this one, but I was still on top. You will notice that the next correct answer was once again, William. After about 5 mins Jordan added me as a friend, gave me the details, and I had TWO Massive (VST) dubstep preset packs emailed to me with-in 1/2 hour. I asked Jordan if he could send one of the packs I got to William and he said yes.

Everything, went better, than expected!

I'll be posting some more beats soon, so be sure to follow!

Dj Mope - Hip-Hop Instrumental

DJ Mope - Hip-Hop Instrumental by IYQ

A lot of people have been digging DJ Mope's beats, so I thought I would throw another one out there. This is his newest one, less than 30 days after being shown the ropes. It isn't as exciting as his earlier ones, but it does feel very solid.

If anybody want to free style to this, please do. I will put you as my next post as well!

Chill Factory by DJ Mope

Chill Factory by IYQ

I have a lot of beats I want to put on here, but I want to spread them out as much as possible. Since the last one got such great response, I thought I would put another one of DJ Mope's beats. This one he made maybe 20 days after I thought him Fruity Loops Studio. He really has a music sense. Don't you think?

Remember: All these beats are free to download!

Charlie Sheen Dubstep Released

Charlie Sheen is a Warlock by IYQ

This is one of the more polished beats we have and I thought it would be a good one to start the blog off to.

Produced by DJs Womp and Mope using FL Studio.
